By the last decades of the 18th century the philosophical, stylistic and financial certainties of the mid eighteenth century were already undermined by exposure to different cultures. Improved transport and trade changed both cultural perceptions and social structures. The neo classical designs of the last two decades of the century were only the beginning of a natural progression to even stronger departures from the old English forms. The neo classical influence of the 18th century, which in the case of tea caddies translated itself in straight shapes and stylised ornaments, developed in the early 19th century to the adaptation of classical architectural forms and shapes in the construction of boxes. Parallel to this the Chinese influence was also felt, as was the inspiration derived from the heavier Egyptian classicism.

Sunday, November 10, Vogue - Pattern Alterations This pattern appears to be a simple silhouette with a few inserts. Let me start out by saying, yeah right! I look at a pattern by comparing it to my TNT dress pattern because I always think of that as the basis to make any changes to a new pattern. Vogue I started with a Vogue size I can honestly say that if I hadn"t had my TNT dress pattern to compare the pattern to, I would be lost.
There are quite a few inches difference between Vogue and my TNT pattern There were a number of alterations made to the patterns: After laying all of the patterns on top of my TNT dress front pattern which is getting pretty worn and will need to be traced again soon there were so many things to change. Trying to match the notches and dots on the pattern pieces, made me a little crazy, but I had to see how the dress was suppose to go together before I made any changes to the pattern pieces.

She attached a picture to her email with this additional message: I bought your book for Mariners Compass and love it. I wrote back and asked her for more of the story and here it is:
s Women. s fashion is characterised by low and sloping shoulders, a low pointed waist, and bell-shaped skirts that grew increasingly voluminous throughout the decade.
It used some rare color footage from the actual wedding parade route and was an enormous hit. Hartnell had designed many gowns for her mother, and he presented the Princess with several sketches that she chose from. Seeing as Elizabeth was heir to the throne, the gown was somewhat of a political statement as well — so all silk for the gown was woven within the United Kingdom using Chinese silkworms.
I feel that the long sleeves were a bit austere, but not at all uncommon for the decade. Rather, it was a lady with a very slight frame who happened to be very trim in the midsection. I actually have a picture of myself standing next to one of her gowns, and as a very petite person myself by modern standards size 6 and not quite 5 ft.
All that to say, I am rather surprised that Princess Margaret chose such a camouflaging gown when she could have chosen something less pouffy and a bit more flattering. She did wear one stunner of a tiara, though, so we can forgive her for disappointing all those ladies who were hoping for more sparkle in the dress itself.
I was given a silk piano shawl possibly dating from the s to Unfortunately it is badly torn and the fringes all tangled up but it has beautiful embroidery. It just requires a lot of patience. But what do I do about the tears and the fabric is so fragile that the even with careful handling it tears?
The collection is a stylized balance of high fashion and global luxury, which embody the core aesthetic of AMAIÒ. Founder and designer, Samantha Khoury, draws upon her avant-garde design inspiration from her training in Fine Arts, passion for Haute Couture, and multi-cultural heritage.

Unlike weaving , knitting does not require a loom or other large equipment, making it a valuable technique for nomadic and non-agrarian peoples. The oldest knitted artifacts are socks from Egypt, dating from the 11th century CE. These complexities suggest that knitting is even older than the archeological record can prove.
Knitting is the process of using two or more needles to loop yarn into a series of interconnected loops in order to create a finished garment or some other type of fabric.

Posted on December 16, by Amanda Carestio More than any time of the year the last few months require us to have a little black dress to wear to holiday office parties, family gatherings, or watching the local Nutcracker ballet. Jessica Ziebarth, Associate Editor Fabric: Black Ponte Knit Size: I want to be able to dress it up and down and wear it multiple ways throughout all seasons.
I choose to make Vogue because it checked all of my LBD boxes. Omitted lining, zipper, skirt vent and cowl drawstring. This dress had many pattern pieces and I was surprised at how fast I was able to sew it up. With the use of stretchy ponte knit I was able to omit the zipper totally, which saved some time and effort. I love all the ways I am able to wear the cowl and style the dress differently.
I love pairing this dress with tights in the winter and wearing the cowl draped like a scarf. One of our favorite things about this dress is that it looks great on a variety of body types.
